Finish

Le dernier projet était une petite surprise, puisque c’est l’arbre de Yusei, l’apprenti d’un autre maître à Takamatsu, qui venait souvent le soir dans l’atelier de Koji. Le but étant d’améliorer ses compétences en ligature et mise en forme.  Il avait déjà fait une première sélection dans les branches basses avec Koji. Voilà l’arbre tel qu’il était après ce premier travail.

The last project was a little surprise, as it was the tree of Yusei, the apprentice of another master in Takamatsu, who often came to Koji's workshop in the evening. The aim was to improve his wiring and shaping skills. He had already made a first selection in the lower branches with Koji. Here is the tree as it was after this first work.

Je me suis permis d’adapter un peu le choix de la face en tournant l’arbre d’environ 12 minutes dans le sens contrail des aiguilles d’un horloge. Pour moi l’arbre gagne en conicité et en dynamisme.

I took the liberty of adapting the choice of face a little by turning the tree about 12 minutes counter clockwise. For me the tree gains in conicity and dynamism.

L’arbre ne manque pas de branches et Koji me demande de mettre cet arbre en forme comme si c’était pour le vendre. Donc l’arbre est mis en forme de telle façon qu’il est au plus beau avec ce que l’arbre propose en ce moment

The tree is not short of branches and Koji asks me to shape the tree as if it were for sale. So the tree is shaped in such a way that it is at its most beautiful with what the tree offers at the moment.

Un problème qui se présente en ligaturant les branches, c’est que certaines branches sont souples au départ, mais deviennent moins souples plus loin, souvent à cause de tailles qui ont été faites.

One problem that arises when wiring the branches, is that some are flexible at the start, but become less flexible further on, often because of pruning that has been done.

Au sommet, l’arbre a presque la ramification d’un arbre en style balai. Là aussi, j’essaie d’utiliser un maximum de branches, même si je me vois obligé d’y enlever une grosse branche; à l’avenir une 2ème grosse branche pourra être enlevée, mais je la garde pour le moment, pour donner un maximum de volume à l’arbre.

At the top, the tree has almost the branching of a broom style tree. Here too, I try to use as many branches as possible, even if I have to remove a large branch; in the future a second large branch can be removed, but I'm keeping it for the time being, to give the tree maximum volume.
