Project 9 Harmony

Koji me donne aujourd’hui un Pin à cinq aiguilles, pinus pentaphylla, et je suis content qu’il varie les espèces d’arbres que j’ai à travailler. C’est un arbre qui a été préparé pour avoir cette face-ci, avec un mouvement vers la gauche vu le fait que le sommet (mort maintenant) vient vers l’avant.

Koji gave me a five needle pine today, pinus pentaphylla, and I'm glad he's varying the tree species I have to work on. It is a tree that has been prepared to have this front, with a movement to the left as the top (dead now) comes forward.

Mais je préfère l’autre face, celle qui va vers la droite, parce qu’elle permettra de cacher, à l’avenir, avec un étage vert l’endroit où l’arbre a été greffé.  Mais. Une raison bien plus importante pour ce choix est que les racines apparentes sont beaucoup plus harmonieuses avec cette face-ci qu’avec l’autre. Et ces racines c’est un des attraits principaux de l’arbre, je pense.

Et, peut-être, ce qui joue aussi c’est que nous occidentaux lisons des textes et images de gauche à droite, tandis que les orientaux les lisent de droite à gauche.

But I prefer the other side, the one that goes to the right, because it will allow to hide, in the future, with a green layer the place where the tree has been grafted.  But a much more important reason for this choice is that the visible roots are much more harmonious with this side than with the other. And these roots are one of the main attractions of the tree, I think.

And, perhaps, what also plays a role is that we westerners read texts and images from left to right, while easterners read them from right to left.

Quelle que soit la face, le mouvement du sommet mort n’est pas en harmonie avec le mouvement global de l’arbre. Donc, j’aimerais bien changer ça. Pour ça, je travaille cette branche morte pour l’amincir, ce qui permettra on la mouillant et chauffant, de la changer de direction. En plus c’est la plus ancienne branche vu son volume et donc elle mérite d’avoir un aspect plus âgé.

Whatever the side, the movement of the dead top is not in harmony with the overall movement of the tree. So I would like to change that. To do this, I'm working on this dead branch to thin it, which will allow me to change its direction by wetting and heating it. It is also the oldest branch due to its volume and therefore deserves to look older.

Une belle découverte: c’est de constater que cette branche morte tourner autour de son axe. Cela permet de créer du bois mort avec du caractère. Je ligature la branche pour la préparer au pliage.

A nice discovery: this dead branch turns around its axis. This creates dead wood with character. I wire the branch to prepare it for bending.

Je ne pouvais pas tout simplement donner un mouvement vers la droite à cette branche, car elle serait cassée. Mais après un léger mouvement vers la gauche, elle part maintenant vers la droite.

Et voici l’arbre après sa mise en forme.

I couldn't just move the branch to the right, because it would break. But after a slight movement to the left, it now goes to the right.
